The UK’s Most Affordable Towns for First-Time Buyers

Finding your feet on the property ladder has a lot to do with what you can afford. So join us for a whistle-stop tour of the most affordable areas for first-time buyers.

Looking to buy your first home? Congrats! It’s a big step, from adjusting to a new neighbourhood to pulling together a deposit to making an offer.

In 2024, it can be a challenge for first-time buyers to step onto the property ladder. While pricey avocado toast and barista-made coffees tend to take the blame, there’s more to it. Average salaries haven’t increased at the same rate as property prices, meaning buyers need to squirrel away a larger deposit (and consider buying with someone else) to make it possible.

Thankfully, remote work has allowed many first-time buyers to explore corners of the country that are kind to their minds (hello green spaces!) and wallets (affordability, nice to see you!).  Check out the latest UK towns that are affordable for first-time buyers.

Bradford, West Yorkshire, England

Ah, our northern friend. Bradford tops the list for being the most affordable town for first-time buyers. Average prices for terraced homes are around £144,000, with plenty of places to choose from. It’s just 30 minutes from Leeds and offers employment opportunities of all types. You’re just a quick drive or train ride from Manchester, Sheffield and York too. Ready to have a peek?
